Rector Search Update: November 19, 2019
Dear Good Shepherd family:
In this season of giving thanks, I am particularly grateful for Good Shepherd and all the blessings it brings to my family. I am grateful for the friends young and old we have made through the parish. I am grateful for the steadfast faith and calm presence of Stanford, Kathy, Dean, Marcea and Brandon. I am grateful to our program team and to all our musicians for making Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings – and so many days in between! – a time of true inspiration. I am grateful for my fellow vestry members, for our hard-working search committee, and for all the lay leadership of our parish. Thanks be to God!
RECTOR SEARCH UPDATE
The rector search committee continues to work tirelessly toward selecting our next leader. In October and early November, the committee conducted online Skype interviews with nine candidates; after these interviews, the committee chose to move forward with six of the candidates.
From late November into February, travel teams of four to five committee members each are scheduled to visit these priests in their home parishes. During each visit, the team will conduct lengthy interviews with the candidate using the slate of questions developed earlier in the search process. Because each formal interview session will be based upon the same questions, the committee will be able to compare feedback among candidates more easily and effectively. The teams will also spend time with the candidate (and his or her spouse if applicable) socially at dinner; and attend Sunday morning services where the candidate will be preaching.
INTERIM RECTOR UPDATE
We have not received any candidates for Interim Rector since my update to you last month. We feel secure in the continued leadership of our clergy, staff, and lay leaders during this transition time but remain open to considering candidates for interim rector. As a reminder, the vestry considers interim candidates sent to the vestry by the Diocese of Texas.
Finally, if you have not yet had a chance, please remember to submit your 2020 stewardship pledge so that Good Shepherd may continue to provide the excellent worship, formation, outreach and fellowship opportunities that make this parish a true spiritual home for us all. The continued strength of our congregation – financial and otherwise – is a compelling signal to prospective rectors of our health and vitality.
I hope you and your loved ones enjoy Thanksgiving as we celebrate the many blessings of this parish, of one another, and of God. Thank you all for your hope, joy and energy, and thank you for allowing me to serve you this year.
