Sundays at 8:30a – Nursery room

Sundays at 9:30a – First floor of the Education Center
Godly Play is designed for children ages 2 – 5. As part of lifelong formation, Godly Play nurtures preschoolers’ wonder and joy in a warm, inviting, and fun atmosphere. This curriculum cultivates a setting encouraging our young children to explore Bible stories in their own, unique ways. Following their creative responses, participants share in the tradition of The Great Feast, mirroring Communion. Contact: Julie Reynolds

Sundays at 10:30a – First floor of the Education Center
During our primary Sunday worship services, 2 through 4-year olds are invited to stay in the nursery, where parents can pick them up to receive communion with the rest of their family; or, little ones may attend the service with their parents. Contact: Julie Reynolds


Sundays, during the 10:30a Gospel Reading – Room 200
At the reading of the Gospel, in both 10:30a worship services, families may choose for their young children to follow appointed Youth guides to the Children’s Choir Room for a meaningful Children’s Chapel program of movement, music, and story. Children return to their family’s care at the exchange of The Peace, just before the Eucharistic Prayer begins. Children’s Chapel is held on the 2nd floor of the Education Center in the Children’s Choir Room. Contact: Julie Reynolds


Sundays at 9:30a – Rooms 204 and 206
, a new and exciting addition to our Children’s and Family Ministry program, are age-level small groups designed just for kids in Kindergarten – 5th grade. Utilizing 252 Kids Curriculum, Herds will focus on engaging kids’ interests, connecting the Bible to their everyday lives, and building relationships. The curriculum provokes discovery and invites kids into a new understanding of forming a relationship with Jesus. Contact: Julie Reynolds

Various times – Education Center 
For 4th and 5th-grade Herd members, we are beginning a pre-teen ministry which will include once-a-month gatherings and leadership opportunities with Children’s Chapel on Sunday mornings. Our preteens will have their own space, The Edge Lounge, in room 203 on the 2nd floor of the Education Center. Contact: Julie Reynolds


Wednesdays – Room 200
Children’s Choir
is venturing in a new direction this year with its affiliation with the Royal School of Choral Music. Our goal for Children’s Choir is to create a program which offers a global approach, integrates music theory, history, and the physiology of singing with their choral training, at a developmentally appropriate level. Children in 1st grade and up are invited to become a part of this exciting time in music ministry here at Good Shepherd. Contact: Christina Baird


Children’s Choir (1st and 2nd grade) – 5:00-5:30p
-Music and activities geared to this age group.  Included will be some ideas/techniques/activities from the RSCM curriculum, but they will not use the workbooks.
-Children will be dismissed at 5:30 pm on most days, but will stay longer to rehearse with the older youth prior to a performance.
-Regular collaboration with the Youth Choir.

Youth Choir (3rd grade and up) – 5:30-6:30p
-Music and activities geared to this age group.  Included will be full RSCM written curriculum.  We’ll include a placement interview to more accurately determine the musical proficiency of students.  The goal is to keep them all engaged, and for us to serve the children as best as we can.


Middle School Formation: Sundays 9:30-10:20a
All students in grades 6th-8th are invited to join us for bible study, check-ins with our friends, games and, occasionally fancy donuts!  This class will be led by Kali Ridley, our Youth Ministry Associate. Contact: Emily Shelton

High School Formation: Sundays 9:30a – 10:20a
All students in grades 9-12 are invited to join us for High School Formation in the Youth Corner. Starting at 9:30a, we will meet for an hour of breakfast, a deep dive into that Sunday’s liturgy, and a chance to catch up with our EYC community. Contact: Emily Shelton

Rite 13:
Rite 13 is a six week long program for those who are or will turn 13 in the fall semester and will culminate in a ceremony on November 4, 2018. This is a wonderfully rich and meaningful experience for the participants, their families, and the entire church community. Each Sunday leading up to the Rite 13 Ceremony we will meet during the Formation hour to discuss a variety of topics. This will include a Bible Study, examining the Book of Common Prayer, conversations about our faith, learning ways to grow in deeper relationship with God and ourselves, and building a Rite 13 community. Formation Field Trip – Greenbelt Hike & Worship: Sunday, October 14, 9-11:30a
On the second Sunday of each month, the middle and high school formation classes will travel off campus to encounter Christ in the world. Our first Formation Field Trip will be a hike at Bull Creek (6701 Lakewood Dr, Austin, TX 78731.) Please meet at the location at 9a. We will have a Eucharist and prayer service there and will be back at the Windsor Campus by 11:30a. If you are interested in coming or helping to drive the youth back to church, please email Emily at emily@gsaustin.org.


Confirmation: Sundays starting September 9
Current 9th and 10th graders are invited to join the 2018-2019 Confirmation Class, beginning September 9. This nine month journey will unpack what it means to inhabit the world as both a Christian and as an Episcopalian. Through small groups, service projects, Bible studies, a retreat, and a deep dive into the history and meaning of our faith, this class will continue the work that began at our baptism, culminating in the public proclamation of faith at the Confirmation ceremony on May 5, 2019. Contact: Emily Shelton


EYC (Episcopal Youth Community):Wednesdays 6:30p – 8:00p – Youth Corner
This is our traditional “youth group” meeting time. All 6th-8th graders are invited to join us for a more laid-back time to build faithful friendships while enjoying games, activities, discussions, music, videos, snacks, and more fun! Contact: Emily Shelton

Middle School Lock-In: Sunday, October 7 – Monday, October 8
Following the Blessing of the Animals liturgy on October 7, the middle schoolers will have a fall lock-in! Pick up will be the following morning at 8a. Contact: Emily Shelton

Skate Party: Sunday, September 30, 5:30-7:30p – Playland Skate Center
The Good Shepherd middle and high schoolers will join other Austin Youth Groups at Playland Skate Center for a back-to-school Episco-Party! This event is free and dinner will be provided! RSVP with Emily by Friday, September 28. Please drop off and pick up your child at the Skate Center.


Senior High Breakfast: Tuesdays 7:15-8:15a – Magnolia Cafe on Lake Austin Blvd
Every Tuesday morning, the high school youth group meets for breakfast at the Magnolia Café on Lake Austin Boulevard. Whether you’re a morning person or can’t fully function without caffeine, the gingerbread pancakes and stellar community are sure to be the best part of your day! Contact: Emily Shelton

NAMI Walk: Saturday, September 29, 9a – The Long Center
Lace up your walking shoes and join your fellow Good Shepherd parishioners and high schoolers in a walk for mental health! NAMIWalks is a 5K walk that raises awareness and funds for the National Alliance on Mental Illness organization, whose mission is to build better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. Skate Party: Sunday, September 30, 5:30-7:30p – Playland Skate Center
The Good Shepherd middle and high schoolers will join other Austin Youth Groups at Playland Skate Center for a back-to-school Episco-Party! This event is free and dinner will be provided! RSVP with Emily by Friday, September 28. Please drop off and pick up your child at the Skate Center.

Central Texas Food Bank Service Day: Saturday, November 3, 9a-12p
Our first Senior High Service Saturdays!  We will serve at the Central Texas Food Bank, touring the facility, learning more about food insecurity in Austin, and sorting food donations. Contact: Emily Shelton
