Community Book Discussion: The Book of Joy
“The Book of Joy”
Community Book Discussion at The Hill
Thursdays in July, 7:30-9:00p
Two spiritual giants. One timeless question.
Join us as we explore the wisdom and insight of Nobel Peace Prize Laureates His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
In April 2015, Archbishop Tutu traveled to the Dalai Lama’s home in Dharamsala, India, to celebrate His Holiness’s eightieth birthday and to create what they hoped would be a gift for others. They looked back on their long lives to answer a single burning question: How do we find joy in the face of life’s inevitable suffering?
These men have survived more than fifty years of exile and the soul-crushing violence of oppression. Yet, despite their hardships, they are two of the most joyful people on the planet. This book offers us a rare opportunity to experience their astonishing and unprecendented week together, from the first embrace to the final good-bye.
The discussion group will be led by The Rev. Kathy Rock Pfister, and light refreshments will be provided. This discussion group is open to anyone seeking to explore themes of suffering, resilience and joy, people of all faiths, as well as those who espouse no particular faith, are welcome. July 6, 13, 20 and 27, 7:30-9p. To sign up please email firstname.lastname@example.org
