Rector Search Update: July 2, 2019
Happy summer! I hope you are all enjoying the sunny days, warm nights, and relaxed pace of life that this season brings.
I write to update you on the search for our sixth rector: much has been going on behind the scenes! In early May, our rector search committee was formed; Bishop Andy Doyle commissioned the group with a blessing on May 5. The following weekend, the committee and the vestry were educated together on the results of the HolyCow! survey. Like the results of the strategic plan input gathering, the HolyCow! survey confirmed that our parish is energetic, with a wide variety of interests and appetites.
Last weekend, the search committee elected Bobby Chesney and Lisa McMinn as its co-chairs, and Betsy Clements as its clerk. Please thank Bobby, Lisa, and Betsy when you see them for their leadership in this ministry to Good Shepherd.
Simultaneously with the work described above, a group of researchers and writers has been hard at work on the Parish Profile. Currently, the profile is in the final stages of content editing, and graphic design work has begun. The rector search committee has met to familiarize itself with the profile. In mid-August, the search committee will receive formal Search Training from our Diocese, and the Parish Profile will go live on our website. Active search and travel will begin this fall.
The rector search process is not a quick one, and Good Shepherd’s high bar for excellence and the complexity of our organization add to that measured pace of work. Additionally, life at our parish has not slowed down! From Shepherd Camp to our consistently wonderful worship services, to our shared work with Mobile Loaves & Fishes, our clergy, staff, and lay volunteers continue their ministries on both of our campuses with joy and energy. Thank you all for your continued support and faithful energy during our rector transition. You all remain in my prayers, and I am thankful for the opportunity to serve such an incredible community.
