SUMMARY:Summer Sunday Bible Study
DESCRIPTION:“And God said…”\, a bible study connecting the Old and New Testaments will meet on Sunday mornings beginning June 16. \nThree words in the Book of Genesis – And God said… – set the entire Judeo-Christian story in motion. The Old Testament is the “operating system” for the New Testament. Without the calling of Israel\, the story of Jesus has no context. Without the Law and the Prophets\, the New Testament has no foundation in which to build the Church. We will read a variety of biblical texts\, from Abraham and Moses and the Prophets to the Gospels and St. Paul\, and discover how often the Scriptures reveal “the good news of the gospel.” \nWith questions\, please contact the Rev. Mike Wyckoff.

SUMMARY:Traces of the Trade Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:St. Matthew’s (8134 Mesa Drive) will host a screening of “Traces of the Trade: A Story from the Deep North.” This film recounts one New England family’s involvement in the slave trade in the 18th and 19th centuries\, where Northern businesses and communities condoned and benefited from slave trading. Their story illustrates how racism operates in ways people do not consciously recognize. The screening will include dinner and a facilitated discussion of the film by Dain and Constance Perry\, members of the New England family. This event is sponsored by the Episcopal Health Foundation (EHF)\, being grounded in Christian beliefs that call for equity in its mission to promote health and well-being among the 15 million Texans in 80 counties. SUMMARY:Sunday Bible Study: The Message to the Galatians
DESCRIPTION:Paul and Barnabas had founded the Galatian churches on the first missionary journey (acts 13 + 14) by their preaching and teaching. After their departure\, other teachers arrived and began to undermine Paul’s teaching. To address this “trouble” (1:7) and the confusion these teachers caused\, Paul wrote a six-chaptered epistle. His three main questions were concerned with apostolic authority (how do we know what to believe?)\, the gift of salvation (how do we understand “justification by grace through faith”?)\, and the life of holiness (how do we live a life of righteousness and love?). The answers Paul gives to the Galatian believers hold true for us today. For more information\, please contact the Rev. Mike Wyckoff.
