DESCRIPTION:St. Matthew’s (8134 Mesa Drive) will host a screening of “Traces of the Trade: A Story from the Deep North.” This film recounts one New England family’s involvement in the slave trade in the 18th and 19th centuries\, where Northern businesses and communities condoned and benefited from slave trading. Their story illustrates how racism operates in ways people do not consciously recognize. The screening will include dinner and a facilitated discussion of the film by Dain and Constance Perry\, members of the New England family. SUMMARY:Sunday Bible Study: The Message to the Galatians
DESCRIPTION:Paul and Barnabas had founded the Galatian churches on the first missionary journey (acts 13 + 14) by their preaching and teaching. After their departure\, other teachers arrived and began to undermine Paul’s teaching. To address this “trouble” (1:7) and the confusion these teachers caused\, Paul wrote a six-chaptered epistle. His three main questions were concerned with apostolic authority (how do we know what to believe?)\, the gift of salvation (how do we understand “justification by grace through faith”?)\, and the life of holiness (how do we live a life of righteousness and love?). SUMMARY:Confirmation Information Session for Parents and Students
DESCRIPTION:Confirmation is for students in 9th grade and up who are ready to make a mature and public declaration of their faith. This entails a commitment to participation in the life of the church\, including regular attendance at worship\, service to the church\, a commitment to seeking justice and peace in the world\, and an overall interest in deepening their connection to God in Christ. Our Youth Confirmation Retreat will take place on Friday\, January 10 and Saturday\, January 11\, and our Confirmation service will take place in the Spring of 2025. \nThis information session is required to attend the confirmation retreat in January. DESCRIPTION:Our three-part fall series begins on Wednesday\, September 25 with author Roger Hutchison.\nWhile exploring the theme of Understanding union with God and one another\, we will focus each week on knowing yourself\, knowing God and knowing each other – believing that all three parts are connected to Jesus’s command that we love God and love our neighbor as ourselves.\n\nRoger will share his insights on how we can come to know and understand ourselves better as we try to put these pieces together.\nDessert and coffee will be served at 6:00p\, and the program will begin at 6:30p in the Windsor\, Parish Life Center.\n\n\nRoger is an award-winning author of Sparrow’s Prayer\, The Art of Calm: Spiritual Exercises for the Anxious Soul\, and the forthcoming The Gift of Baptism\, artist\, and multi-talented creative communicator. He is also a lay ministry leader in the Episcopal Church. Roger is known for his compassionate work with children affected by tragedy and for his openness about his journey with ADHD\, anxiety\, and depression. His writing\, art\, and photography aim to bring healing and hope to a world in need. \n\n\n\nAdditionally\, Roger is an award-winning photographer focusing on nature photography. Houston’s St. Luke’s Hospital has fifty of Roger’s photographs on display. In 2021\, She authored The Brain & the Spirit (Wipf & Stock) exploring neuroscientific explanations for when theology promotes wellness.
