SUMMARY:Sunday Morning Bible Study
DESCRIPTION:This winter\, our Sunday Morning Bible Study will explore the Book of Revelation—also known as the Revelation to John—a New Testament letter that has been described as strange\, challenging\, poetic\, symbolic\, and profoundly hopeful. Written around 90ad to the early Christian communities in Asia Minor\, Revelation unfolds not in a linear argument\, but through vivid\, imaginative “scenes” that invite us to see God’s truth with fresh eyes. Join us weekly on Sundays\, January 18–May 31 at 9:15a in the Windsor media room\, with eyes wide open! For more information\, please contact the Rev. Mike Wyckoff. \n

SUMMARY:Sunday Bible Study: The Pastoral Letters of St. Paul
DESCRIPTION:Nearing the end of his life\, Paul writes three letters (I and II Timothy\,Titus) to the faithful in hopes of securing the gospel truth for the next generation. Like a “last will and testament\,” Paul calls for the Church to be “the pillar and foundation of the truth.” Covering a range of topics in the life of the local church\, the relevance of these letters prompt us to re-examine the gospel and tradition we have inherited. For more information contact the Rev. Mike Wyckoff.

SUMMARY:The Holy Spirit in the Church and the World
DESCRIPTION:From the beginning of time\, the Spirit of God has been present and active in the world (Genesis 1:2). In the New Testament\, the primary attention upon the presence and power of the Holy Spirit is in the life of Jesus and then through him in the lives of all his followers. The Book of Acts\, which we read on Sundays in the season of Easter\, gives accounts of how the Spirit empowers the early Church. Primarily\, the Spirit acts in three ways: evangelism\, preaching and teaching the word of God\, and the healing ministry. We will look at texts from Acts in these three ways the Holy Spirit has directed the mission of the church\, and save time at the end of class to share our own experiences of the Holy Spirit. \nEveryone is welcome! With questions please contact Amy Wanamaker. \n\nApril 27 — Acts 1:1-5\, 2:1-13 The promise and the coming of the Holy Spirit\nMay 4 — Acts 2:14-42 Peter’s preaching and the first converts\nMay 11 — Acts 5: 12-32 The Apostles healing ministry\, followed by persecution\nMay 18 — Acts 8: 26-40 Philip evangelizes an Ethiopian in Samaria\nMay 25 — Acts 9: 1-23 The conversion of Paul\nJune 1 — Acts 10: 1-8\, 21-48 The conversion of Cornelius\, a Gentile\nJune 8 — Acts 16:16-38 Paul and Silas in prison

SUMMARY:Sunday Bible Study: The Psalms – A Mirror of the Soul
DESCRIPTION:From the very beginning\, Israel was a covenant community whose primary bond was worship of God. The Book of Psalms has such a key role (as it does for us today)\, revealing the faith of the community. As Christians\, we read the psalms with New Testaments eyes\, and discover similar situations as the Hebrew people before us–sorrow\, loneliness\, joy\, hope and much more. John Calvin said the psalms provide “a mirror of the soul.” After an initial teaching of the “anatomy” of a psalm\, we will look at four genres or types of psalms appropriate for Lent–lament\, help\, remembrance and instruction. \nWith questions contact the Rev. Mike Wyckoff.

SUMMARY:The Sermon on the Mount Bible Study
DESCRIPTION:The Sermon on the Mount (Matthew\, 5–7) presents the essence of the teaching of Jesus. These 107 verses raise challenges for modern Christians\, especially if we accept the standards and values the Sermon sets forth. The followers of Jesus are to be different – both from the nominal church and the secular world. Here is a Christian value system\, an ethical standard\, a religious devotion and attitudes to money\, ambition\, lifestyle\, relationships – all of which are at variance with those in the non-Christian world. This Sermon is the most complete articulation of the life of the Kingdom of God. It is this Kingdom that Jesus desired for the Church and her followers. By grace (not law)\, we will learn together how Jesus intended for his Sermon to be received.\n\nThis Sunday Bible Study will meet January 12—March 2 in the Windsor\, media room.\nFor more information\, contact the Rev. Mike Wyckoff.
