The Book of Revelation (or, The Revelation of John, as it is also known) is a New Testament letter that has been called many things – strange, difficult, poetic, futuristic, symbolic, terrifying, apocalyptic to name a few. John of Patmos wrote this letter in about AD 90 to the Christian churches in seven of the towns in Asia Minor. Instead of a linear approach with sequential points used by most New Testament writers, Revelation is constructed with “scenes.” There is Christian teaching throughout this letter; yet, the uniqueness of Revelation requires more of our imagination in order to grasp the truth of the scenes.
