St. Matthew’s (8134 Mesa Drive) will host a screening of “Traces of the Trade: A Story from the Deep North.” This film recounts one New England family’s involvement in the slave trade in the 18th and 19th centuries, where Northern businesses and communities condoned and benefited from slave trading. Their story illustrates how racism operates in ways people do not consciously recognize. The screening will include dinner and a facilitated discussion of the film by Dain and Constance Perry, members of the New England family. This event is sponsored by the Episcopal Health Foundation (EHF), being grounded in Christian beliefs that call for equity in its mission to promote health and well-being among the 15 million Texans in 80 counties.
